Charles Everette Massey, 71, of Stoneville passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at UNC Chapel Hill.
A service to celebrate Charlie's life will be held at 3 pm Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Temple of Faith Church in Ridgeway, VA.
Charlie was born in Rockingham County on September 12, 1950 a son of Samuel Everette Massey and Dovie Roberts Massey, both deceased. He was retired from the US Army after serving 34 ½ years. His rank when he retired was Master Sergeant. Charlie served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He served in Turkey, Panama, Belgium and Germany. He was a retired firefighter of 28 years. He served for the NW Rockingham and Stoneville Fire Departments. He was an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop # 562 and a deacon at Temple of Faith Church in Ridgeway Virginia,
He is survived by his wife, Tammi Smith Massey of the home, his son, Charles "Jason" Massey of Stoneville; his daughters, Amy Lester and husband, Billy of Stoneville and Amanda Dryden and husband, Richard of Stoneville; his brother, Jimmy Massey and wife, Frances of Eden; his sister, Gracie Clark of Bassett, VA; his grandchildren, Caitlin Lester, Daniel Lester, Mikayla McMillen and Richard Alexander Dryden; his special nephews, Michael Massey and wife, Charlene and James Slaughter and wife, Leigh Ann; his special nieces, Billie Jean Massey and Debra Massey; his special great niece, Ashley Smith and his best friend, Pastor Bobby Lawson and wife, Marie.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry Massey and Phillip Massey.
Due to Covid, the family will meet at the home of his daughter, Amy Lester, 191 Hamlin-Ford Road, Stoneville, NC.
Memorials may be offered to the Wounded Warrior Project or the DAV (Disabled Veterans).
