Colleen Strader, 71 of Inman, SC passed away on January 9th, 2025 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. She will be remembered for her determination despite the challenges of her long illness.
Colleen was born to the late Coley & Mildred Strader, March 22, 1953 in Rockingham County, NC. Colleen graduated from Ruffin High School in 1971, attended Rockingham Community College and ultimately retired from the education system after serving in several capacities.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Janice and her grandson, PJ.
Colleen's greatest joy was her children & grandchildren. Colleen is survived by her children, Philip Shumaker (Crystal) of Inman, SC, Joel Shumaker (Bobbi) of Jacksonville, FL and Sarah Anderson of Spartanburg, SC; her brother, Jerry Strader (Brenda) of Reidsville; her grandchildren, Katie, Olivia, Elizabeth, Anna, Maverick, Sydney, Matthew and Madison; and her great grandchildren, Selah and Brady.
Colleen has always enjoyed music and dancing, especially if it was an Elvis song. (Cats & plants) She had the biggest sweet tooth, especially for chocolate milkshakes and a Dr. Pepper. She cherished visits from her family at the nursing home.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm Friday, January 17, 2025 at Boone & Cooke Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Dan River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 until 1 pm at the funeral home Friday before the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or to PJ's Legacy Foundation.
