Doris Vernon Land, 70, of Stoneville passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital surrounded by loved ones.

A memorial service will be held at 5 pm on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Boone & Cooke Funeral Home Chapel.  The family will receive friends from 4 until 5 pm at the funeral home before the service.

Doris was born in Rockingham County on June 19, 1955, to the late Norman Vernon and Rosie Bailey Vernon.  She worked in textiles.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, sister and a "very special" aunt.  Doris was a Christian who loved the Lord.  Doris will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Rosie Vernon, her granddaughter, Haylee Land; her brothers, Jimmy Vernon, Bert Vernon; and her sisters, Jean Porter and Sybil Hall.

Doris is survived by her husband of 52 years, James "Jimmy" Land, Jr. (Slick); her children, Kenny, Jerry, Kevin and Michael Land (Morgan); her "special" grandsons, Levi and Dakota Land; her "special" great grandchildren, Georgia, Wynonna and Tony Land; her sister, Helen Austin, Sharon Smith, and Lisa Vernon; her sister-in-law, Barbara Land Roberts(Jay); and multiple special nieces and nephews who loved Doris dearly.
