Mr. James Edward Chumley, 88, of 458 Cascade Avenue in Eden, passed away late Monday evening, March 14, 2011 at Morehead Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Boone-Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Dan View Cemetery.

Mr. Chumley was born in Spray (now Eden) on January 14, 1923, a son of John Garrett Chumley and Mary Jones Chumley, both deceased. He was retired as a card tender for Fieldcrest Mills.

He is survived by his son, James Milton Chumley and wife, Debra of Kernersville; his brothers, Clifton Chumley and wife, Annie, and Irving Chumley and wife, Judy, all of Eden; his sisters, Louise Spencer of Pinnacle, NC and Lois Collins and husband, Jerry, also of Eden; his sister-in-law, Gladys Chumley of Eden; and his grand daughter, Adrienne Branch and husband, Herby of Eden.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Gillie Chumley, and his brothers, Cleo Chumley and Wade Chumley.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8pm on Wednesday evening at Boone-Reynolds Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
