James Irving Gibbs, Jr., 59, of Eden, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at his residence.

A celebration of his life will be held at 3 pm on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Boone & Cooke Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 pm before the service and other times at the residence.

James was born in Rockingham County on April 20, 1963, a son of James Irving Gibbs, Sr, and Shelby Brown Lewis, both deceased. He worked as a machine operator at Eden Yarns.

He is survived by his girlfriend, Shannon Christley of Eden; his daughter, Hailey Gibbs and spouse, Tiffany Handy of Havelock, NC; her son, James Grogan of Eden; his sisters, Tina Sallie of Eden, Deb Wallace and husband, Todd of Pelham, Barbara Woods and husband, Jerome of Eden and Tammy Gibbs of Pelham; his brothers, Kenneth Gibbs and wife, Sandy of Pelham, Jimmy Gibbs of Eden, Mark Gibbs of Eden and Donald Gibbs and wife, Risa of Eden and his grandchildren, Lakeyn, Jaxson, Emily. Layla and Everette, as well as several nieces and nephews.
