Obituary

Jerry Walter “Mose” Shropshire, 87, of Stoneville passed away on Tuesday morning, June 30, 2026, at North Pointe of Mayodan.

A private graveside service will be held. Friends may pay their respects from 2-5 pm on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Boone & Cooke Funeral Home. A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held later in the summer.

Jerry was born in Rockingham County on May 25, 1939, a son of William Gordon Shropshire and Ruby Martin Shropshire, both deceased. He retired from Duke Power.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Bill, Jack, Bob and Jimmy Shropshire and his sisters, Louise Patterson, Nancy Patterson and Shirley Wyrick.

Jerry is survived by his daughter, Sheralene Thompson and husband Jon; his wife, Gloria Shropshire; his step daughter, Renee Combs and husband Carter; his sister, Betty Merritt and husband Barnie; his sisters-in-law, Colleen Shropshire and Meryle Shropshire; his daughter’s mother, Hazel Shropshire; his nieces, Brenda Cripps, Gary Ann Watkins, Gail Carter, Pamela Fulp, Cindy Watkins, Vickie Hoover, Donna Merritt, Robin Boothe and Kristi Moore; his nephews, Randy Shropshire, Bobby Shropshire, Tony Merritt, Todd Shropshire and Steven Shropshire; Rene and Willard, forever his buddies and Leo, his pup.

The family would like to thank all the staff at North Pointe in Mayodan who cared for Daddy during his stay there. They would also like to thank all the fellows who Daddy considered friends throughout the years. He loved each of his friends and enjoyed their company. Whether he was at the barn on Watkins Road or at Bojangles, he made his rounds every day.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Rockingham County Animal Shelter, 250 Cherokee Camp Road, Reidsville, NC 27320, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
