Joan Joyce
Reynolds
Feb 1, 1934 — Sep 11, 2022
Joan Joyce Reynolds, aged 88, of Madison passed away at her home on September 11, 2022 after suffering a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. By her side was family who loved her, devoted Son Dana Reynolds, caretaker Rachelle Reynolds & granddaughter Johanna Reynolds.
Born in Madison, NC on February 1, 1934, Joan was the daughter of Warner and Elma Joyce both of whom predeceased her.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Charles Franklin (Frank) Reynolds; her siblings-Harold Joyce, Selvyn Joyce, Gilmer Joyce, James (JW) Joyce, Rivers Joyce Cally and Nell Joyce Knight.
She is survived by her son, Dana Reynolds; Daughter-in-law, Rachelle B. Reynolds; granddaughter, Johanna Reynolds; step grandson, Hudson Cox; and her estranged daughter, Diana Sue Reynolds of Davidson County, NC.
Joan lived for many years in Walnut Cove, NC raising her family, working as a teachers aid and growing many beautiful flowers in her well-manicured yard. Later, the family moved back to Madison and built and lived on a section which was once a portion of the Joyce Family Farm. Through these years Joan worked and retired from Custom Screen in Madison.
During her retirement, she enjoyed helping to raise her granddaughter, Johanna. In her early infant years and well into Johanna's years when she was home schooled.
Joan helped establish Reynolds Family Farm and with her family history of tobacco farming, was able to qualify for farm improvements through NC AGAdventure's with the NC Tobacco Fund Trust Commission.
Joan had a love for the outdoors and spent most of her days working outside in her many gardens and flower beds. In the springtime, it is easy to become mesmerized by the hundreds of colorful azalea bushes blooming on the farm, which were lovingly planted by her over the course of many years.
Joan was raised on the farm, and from the time she was a young girl, her job was to assist her mother daily in the kitchen preparing the large family meals. Her Summers were spent preserving their garden harvest by canning, pickling and preserving and helping in the tobacco fields and vegetable gardens. She told us that many of those years cooking was on a large wood burning cook stove located in the kitchen. They always kept fresh biscuits and jelly on the kitchen table for visitors and for family coming in from the fields. During this time, she became a true, classic southern cook. She had an intense sweet tooth and she was known for baking her tasty pound cakes which she famously shared with friends and family throughout the years. Joan always saved room for dessert!
Her loving son Dana followed in her footsteps with her work ethics in the kitchen as well as the field. She is truly loved and will be greatly missed!
The family would especially like to thank all of the staff at Ancora Compassionate Care Hospice team Reidsville, NC. We never could have completed this task without your counseling, care, support and assistance these last 3 years.
There will be a private celebration of life.
Boone & Cooke Funeral Home is serving the family.
