John Wayne Riggs, 83, of Stoneville, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 10 am Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Matthews Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Wayne was born in Stokes County, NC on February 2, 1940, a son of Samuel J. Riggs and Myrtle Carter Riggs, both deceased.  He was a retired accountant with Universal Leaf Tobacco Co.  He was a member of Matthews Chapel United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mary Lynn Riggs; his siblings, Harvey Riggs, Fletcher Riggs, Calvin Riggs, David Riggs, Elsie Cahill, Adell Wright, Thelma Newman and Mary Griffin.

Wayne is survived by his daughter, Robin Vernon and husband William; his grandchildren, Jennifer Richmond and husband Ryan, Justin Vernon and wife Kristy and Jordan Vernon and wife Hannah; and his great grandchildren, Kiley, Jacoby, Reagan, Carly and Weston.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Matthews Chapel United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.
