A precious saint of the Lord, John Coolidge South, Jr., 68, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 14, 2021 after a three week illness.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Ridge-View Memorial Gardens at 2 pm. There will be no formal visitation.

John was born in Eden on July 21, 1952 a son of John Coolidge South, Sr. and Rachel Blackwell South, both deceased. He was married to Kathy Scearce South on February 14, 2015. Although they only had less than six years together, each year was a gift from God. John was a member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church and a veteran of the US Army. He volunteered with both the City of Eden Fire Department and the Leaksville Rural Fire Department. He later retired from the Environmental Engineering Department of Rockingham County, and Pace Analytical of Eden.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his daughter, April South of Tennessee; his step-son Joey Moschler and wife, Cheri of Danville, VA.; his sisters, Alma Biggs and husband, Johnny and Chris South; special brother, Tony South and wife, Lee Ann all of Eden; his grandchildren, Cody and James Daniels of TN. and Jay Moschler, and several nieces and nephews and their families.

Missing him so much is his sweet poodle, Princess, his daily companion who he loved dearly.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Faith Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund. 7450 Martinsville Hwy, Danville, VA 24541.
