John Thomas Merritt, 76, of Clover, SC passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC.

A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at the Merritt Family Cemetery in Cascade, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 pm Sunday before the service at Boone & Cooke Funeral Home.

John was born in Reidsville on January 24, 1950, a son of John Merritt and Violet Newby Merritt, both deceased. He retired from American Airlines with 32 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, John Steven Merritt.

John is survived by his children, James Merritt of Cascade, VA, Kenneth Merritt (Paula) of Winston-Salem, Rebecca Leatherwood of Winston-Salem, Shelby Merritt of Eden; his brother, Ted Merritt (Kathy) of Eden; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
