Johnny Christman Porter, 80, of Eden passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Immanuel Friends Church.  Interment will follow in Dan View Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Boone & Cooke Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Johnny was born in Galax, Virginia on March 3, 1943, a son of John Coolidge Porter and Stella Merritt, both deceased.  He retired from NC Gas Co. and Carolina Propane.  He was a former fire commissioner for the Draper Fire Department.  He was an avid fan of the Carolina Tar Heels and Atlanta Braves.  He loved spending time with his beloved family and could be found at many football, baseball and softball games watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play.  He coached softball for many years and loved working with young players.

Johnny is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret D. Porter; his children, Lisa Chambers and husband Rusty, Billy Porter, Bobby Porter, Jessica Burks and husband Robbie; his grandchildren, Brandon Chambers and wife Nikki, Chris Porter and wife Mary Jo, Travis Porter, Brian Porter, Ryan Martin, Ethan Porter, Dylan Porter and Liam Porter; his great grandchildren, Keyleigh, Brayden, Lexie, Aaron, Landon, Davis, Hailey, Austin, Kelsi, and Kayce; his sister, Brenda Dickerson and his brother, Eddie Porter and wife Martha.
