Joseph Don Shively, 68, of Eden passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at Forsyth Medical Center.

A private family burial will be held in Axton, VA.

Joseph was born in Franklin County, VA on April 30, 1953, a son of Alvin John Shively and Mattie Scott Shively Cobbler, both deceased.  He served his country in the National Guard.  He was a carpenter and loved to work with wood.  He loved the Lord and enjoyed being outdoors working in his yard.  He was an avid animal lover who was loved by all who met him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step dad, Thomas Cobbler; and his brothers, Tommy, Bill, Broaddus, Naaman and James Shively.

Joseph is survived by his wife Margie H. Shively of the home; his step daughter, Chasity Hankins and husband Alex of Eden; his siblings, Francis Maxey, Chris Woods, Lewis Shively, A.J. Shively, Jesse Shively and Jeff Shively; and his grandchildren, Alex Bailey, USN, San Diego, CA and Destiny Hankins of Eden.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Rockingham County Humane Society.
