Lewis Donald Nelson, Jr., 91, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 13, 2021 at his residence. A cold, gloomy wintry day that gave forth a very rare and God given sign of encouragement of a beautiful white cardinal. A calmness filled the home as we spent quality time with our daddy.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Ridge-View Memorial Gardens with Pastor Johnny Cox of Fieldcrest Road Church of God officiating.

Lewis was born in Dallas, Texas on August 11, 1929. He joined the 82 ^nd Airborne Division and was stationed at Fort Bragg after spending time in Alaska. While on leave he came to Eden with a friend where he spied lovely Doris Bowers. The two married September 3, 1951, settled down and began a family 2 years later. Lewis retired from Corning Glass Works in 1990, but continued to work at odd retail jobs. Mostly Lewis was remembered as the door greeter at Walmart until declining health at the age of 79.

Remembering his life is his wife of 69 years, Doris; daughters, Carol Manley, Donna Hyler (Donnie), Cheryl Foster (Keith), Rita Willard (Jose); son, Chris (Erin); brother, Bill Nelson (Mary); 11 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Hospice for their fine care during this time, especially his nurse Carol, who lovingly called Lewis "Papa". We also recognize Dr. Terry Daniel for all his thoughtfulness.
