Linda Joy Hopkins Cassell, 83, of Danville formerly of Eden passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Brookdale in Danville.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Boone & Cooke Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ryan Riley officiating. Interment will follow in Ridge-View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 pm Tuesday before the service at the funeral home.

Linda was born in the Spray section of Eden on January 14, 1943, the daughter of Ernest James Hopkins Sr. and Rosie Belle Gauldin Hopkins, both deceased. She retired from Smith & Lane Appliance Co. as a bookkeeper and secretary after 27 years of service. She was a member of Hampton Heights Baptist Church. She was a very loving person who cared for her family and all those around her. She loved cooking, especially desserts, and collecting dolls. Square dancing was one of her favorite activities.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George Junior Cassell and her brother, Ernest James “Jimmy” Hopkins, Jr.

Linda is survived by her son, Keith Cassell and wife Beth of Danville, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
