Melvin Cecil Butler, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed away on September 25, 2026 at the age of 83.

A lifelong Caswell County native and avid sportsman, Melvin loved spending his days outside hunting, fishing, spending time on his tractor, mowing grass, and playing golf. While not spending time outside, he loved to go with his beloved wife, Mary, to restaurants, to the beach, and especially to seafood restaurants at the beach. Even as he got older, Melvin would not shy away from work that needed to be done, whether taking care of the yard, repairing hunting stands, or chopping wood. Melvin worked in the textile industry for over 30 years, working his way through the management ranks before retiring and starting his own real estate company, Butler Real Estate. Melvin was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge.

Melvin is survived by his cherished wife of 64 years, Mary Lloyd Butler; daughter Melody Whitby (Travis); grandchildren Lucas Crumpton (Ashley) and Hanah Stadler (Nick); great grandchildren Lindsay & Dylan Crumpton and Elizabeth & Olive Stadler; and sister Shirley Compton.

Melvin was preceded in death by parents E. Stokes and Florence Butler; brother Connie Mack “Tony” Butler; and sisters Naomi Parker, Ruby Swift, Elma Somers, Alene Paschall, Brenda Serns, Frances Page, Doris Byrd, and Lois Aldridge.

A graveside service will be held at Camp Springs Community Church in Reidsville, North Carolina (9168 Cherry Grove Rd) on Wednesday, September 30th at 11:00 AM. All are welcome. Melvin will be dearly missed by all who loved him, and all whom he loved.
