Nancy Kay Hazelwood McAlister, 65, of Stoneville passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, April 17,2022 at her residence.

A celebration of her life will be held for family and friends on Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 2-4 pm at the home of her sister, Ann Hall located at 348 Settle Bridge Road, Reidsville, NC 27320.

Nancy was born in Eden on August 26, 1956, a daughter of Roy Harden Hazelwood and Elizabeth Wray Hazelwood, both deceased. She retired from UNC Rockingham Hospital where she worked as a RN/BSN. In addition to her nursing degrees, she also acquired a degree in photography where she specialized as a wedding and natural light photographer.  Nancy was an award-winning writer.  She contributed to the Spring Lake News of Fayetteville where she provided the community with local news and humor.  Nancy was a true culinary enthusiast, providing catering services for weddings, birthdays, and local church functions.  Her pies, cookies and cakes were sold at local restaurants.  Nancy had many passions other than writing, cake decorating and photography.  She also had a passion for traveling, reading, and spending time with family.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 48 years, Michael Ware McAlister of the home; her daughters, Tracie Hill and husband David of Pittsboro, NC and Lori Beth Hunt and fiancé, Daniel of Mayodan; her sisters, Ann Hall of Wentworth, Mildred Gann of Mayodan and Vera Mae Hazelwood of Pine Hall; her brother, Kenneth Hazelwood and wife, Wanda of Eden; her grandchildren, Gavin Hill, Zayda Richardson and fiancé Jason; her great granddaughter, Emma Rose Scarlett; and her fur babies, Apple and Ginger.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Hazelwood and brother-in-law, Roscoe (Buster) Hall.

Nancy was an advocate for encouraging children to read.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be directed to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library at https://donate.imaginationlibrary.com/ .
