Obituary

A memorial service for Nina Bryan, who passed away on January 13, 2021, will be held at 11 am on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Boone & Cooke Funeral Home Chapel.  All friends and family are welcome to attend.

Mom died this morning.

Nina Helen Lankston Bryan was born in prairie Crawford County, Illinois in mid-July 1941.  She married my Marine dad, David, in November 1959. I came along a year later.  We had a nice life in Leaksville. Dad worked at the mill, and Mom did a little this and that before landing at "Pace and Stone" for 20-some years.

Dad died in June 2013. Mom continued on with a steadfastness and independence and commitment that few knew she had.  Those of us left behind have obviously had a big hole blown into our lives, but we all can take great comfort in that she is now free of pain and that she loved us all deeply and unconditionally.  I'm the only kid, so, at least, I have no siblings whose hearts are also broken.

My family and I are moving to Stoneville from Hickory next week. Me, Kris, David, and Charley sure do wish Mom could have seen the new house.  My adult kids live in Danville. Lee and his family - Amy, Abram, and Gracie in Brosville and Annie in Vandola.  Mom, on the other hand, did have siblings.  Aunt Betty lives here in town. Uncle Bob and Aunt Kay live in Indiana, and Uncle Roger and Aunt Mae live in Ohio. Uncle David died a while back.  Her nieces and nephews were very precious to her. They were also my first, best friends.  The Bryans and the Wisemans were a big, happy, loving piece of her 79 years.

Don't send flowers and stuff. Just have a good thought in her memory.  We'll get together in April and cook and laugh and eat and cry and hug.

Mom loved us all.
