Ronald Wayne Young, Sr., 72, of Eden passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection in Stuart, VA.

A service of remembrance will be held at 12 pm Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Ambassadors for Christ Church, 241 Peter Hill Street in Eden. Military Rites will be performed by the Rockingham County Veterans Honor Guard, and the North Carolina National Guard.

Wayne was born in Harris County, Texas, on April 6, 1951, a son of Willard Johnson Young, Sr. and Charlotte Garrett Young, both deceased. He served his country in the US Army.  He was retired from construction work as a painter.  He was an excellent cook, domino champ, basketball fan and enjoyed fishing.  He said that God gave him a purpose in life, to make people laugh.  He loved to tell jokes and would even make them up to share the gift of laughter with others.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Willard Johnson Young, Jr., Vera Jean Lee and Verna Lee Jackson; and his stepson, Gerald Jones.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 12 years, Brenda Atkinson Young; his children, Ronald Wayne Young, Jr., Kimberly Cunningham, Thornton James "T.J." Young, Larry Young, Robert Young, Tonya Young, and Rosalind Young; his brother, Chatman Young; his sister, Valerie Loretta Harris; his stepsons, Gregory A. Jones and Kevin M. Jones; and numerous grandchildren.
