Obituary

Russell Walter Hunter III (Perch), age 85, of Eden passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2026, following a brief stay at Gibson House, part of Ancora Compassionate Care in Wentworth.

Perch was the son of Russell and Mable Hunter, both deceased.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Letitia Hunter (Tish).

Perch is survived by his son, Rusty Hunter (Regina) of Booneville; his daughter, Tammy Knight (Hal) of Concord; his grandsons, Blake Hunter (Heather) and Brady Hunter; his granddaughter, Ashley Miller (Dalton); three great grandchildren, Tenley and Evans Hunter and Hayden Miller; and his brother, Ernie Hunter.

Perch was a retired truck driver and a veteran of the US Navy serving on the USS Alcor-AK-259. He was an avid golfer, an excellent poker player and a long-time member of the Eden Moose Lodge. He was a man that loved his family and friends deeply.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Cindy and Jimmy Joyce for their support and everlasting friendship. Their appreciation is also extended to UNC Rockingham Nursing Facility and Ancora Care for their care and compassion. Thank you for the many friends who visited him during his time there.

A private service will be held for the family. A drop in Celebration of Life in honor of Perch will be held from 1 until 4 pm on Saturday, August 28, 2026, at the HUTCH MicroVenue on 712 Washington Street in Eden.
