Sherry Rexroad McDowell, 55, of Eden passed away at her home, surrounded by her children, after a long-fought battle with ALS on Wednesday, December 28, 2022.

A service of remembrance will be held at 1 pm Saturday, December 31, 2022 at First Presbyterian Church.  The family will receive friends from 12 until 1 pm before the service at the church and other times at the residence.

Sherry was born in Parkersburg, WV on March 16, 1967, a daughter of Thomas Edward Johnson and Elsie Laughery Johnson, both deceased.  She was an administrative assistant at Averett University.  She loved her cats and Carolina Panthers football.  She was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mac McDowell and her sister, Carol Summers.

Sherry is survived by her sons, Jonathan Rexroad and fiancé Ashley Brim and Ryan McDowell and wife Brittany; her brothers, Tom Johnson and wife Ruth, Gary Johnson and wife Jill and Mike Johnson and wife Barb; her granddaughter, Nora; and her nephews, Doug Summers, Eric Summers and Scott Summers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the ALS Foundation.
