Thelma Louise Risen Wood, 80, of Lexington, KY, went to be with Jesus on April 14, 2021, in Eden, NC, surrounded by her loving family members that spanned three generations.
Friends may reach the family at the homes of her daughters, Kimberly Booth, at 901 Church Street in Eden, NC 27288, and Traci Wood at 129 Sabal Lake Dr., Naples, FL 34104.
A celebration of life service will be held in June at Rosemont Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky. Burial will follow at Lexington Cemetery, near her sister and beloved parents.
Thelma was born in Fayette County, Kentucky to Lewis Thomas Risen and Sylvia Mae Thompson Risen on November 28, 1940. She went to school in Lexington and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1958.
She married and had two daughters, Kimberly and Traci, to whom she devoted her entire life and considered her greatest accomplishments.
She loved children and worked for many years on Sunday mornings keeping the nursery at Rosemont Baptist Church. She is lovingly known as " Nana " to all who knew her.
Thelma had many favorite things, like sweet pea flowers, feeding hummingbirds, babysitting in her home, cooking for friends and family, and after moving to NC in her later years, she enjoyed playing cards with her girlfriends. She was very tech savvy and had her own Instagram and Facebook accounts. She enjoyed keeping in touch with friends through texts and sharing photos from her cell phone. Just this past year during the pandemic, she started her own little greeting card ministry. She delighted in sharing love and cheer with a growing list of friends and family both near and far.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Sylvia Risen, and a sister, Patricia Carol Risen.
Thelma is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Gail Wood Booth (Ronnie), of Eden, NC and Traci Lynn Wood, (Mark Noger) of Naples, FL. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Tara Campbell and husband Chris of Paris, KY, Tabitha Hayes (Cooper) of Bellevue, Idaho, Zachary Booth of North Hollywood, CA, Kelsey Booth of Gothenburg, Sweden, Levi Hanks of Naples, FL, and Darcey Shumaker and husband Caleb of Lexington, NC. Last, but certainly not least, she has great grands that she adored, Brooklynne Riley, Brayden Frederick, Chloe Frederick, Breanna Baber, Bryce Baber, Jacoby Frederick, Aliana Frederick, Jaxson Campbell, Brantley Campbell, Carlie Shumaker, and Bryley Mae Campbell. Special family friend, Shirla Durbin Ramey, was loved like a third daughter.
She is also survived by her brother Lewis Risen Jr, Lexington, KY and a sister Betty (Ronnie), Horton of Nicholasville, KY. She has one niece Jennifer Hardin and several great nieces and nephews.
Bibles may be donated in Thelma's name to biblesforoutreach.org/donate which is a part of Jimmy Swaggart Ministries in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She enjoyed this ministry's wonderful gospel music, and television programming. It brought her great comfort
The family of Thelma Wood wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr Hasanaj and the wonderful ICU nurses at UNC Rockingham in Eden, NC.
