Vera "Carnell" Carter Baliles, 77, of Eden passed away on Tuesday morning, July 20, 2021 at UNC Rockingham Health Care.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Boone & Cooke Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway, VA.   The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at the funeral home and other times at 408 Moir Street in Eden.

Carnell was born in Leaksville on July 4, 1944, a daughter of Warren Harden Carter and Nellie Thompson Carter, both deceased.  She was retired from Spray Cotton Mill.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Timothy Purdy and Willie Purdy; her sister, Elizabeth "Dolly" Carter Dodson; and her great grandson, Harrison Gilley.

Carnell is survived by her daughters, Cindy Long and husband Kris of the home, Julie Thomas and husband Ronnie of Eden; her son, Billy Burchell of Eden; her grandchildren, Haley Long, Dylan Long, Kristopher Long, Rose and Victoria Burchell, Shirley Roach and husband Donnie, Liz Gilley and husband Justin and Mary Thomas, all of Eden; and her eleven great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her brothers, Junior Carter and wife Sarah of Stoneville, Thomas Purdy and wife Cheryl of Powhatan, VA, Joseph Pulliam of Georgia; her sisters, Sue Robertson and husband Jerry of Eden, Teresa Boothe and husband of Floyd, VA; her special brother-in-law, Alvin McHone; as well as many special nieces and nephews and all of her "babies" she helped take care of.
