Obituary

Lenis Virginia Williams Powers, age 96, departed this life on January 5, 2026.

She was born on December 2, 1929, the youngest child of the late Samuel Tilton Williams and Eva Eliza Spencer Williams. Her childhood was lively, growing up with 13 siblings, numerous cousins, and their extended families. A natural leader, she served as Mayodan High School's class president, graduating in 1948. She continued her legacy of service to her community by devoting her career to local businesses including Washington Mills, Gem Dandy, Macfield Texturing, and Tilley-Dillon Oil Company.

Outside of work, she was a faithful member of the Mayodan Episcopal Church until her health prevented her from attending, an accomplished cook, a connoisseur of antiques, and caretaker of her family and cats. She expressed her love for others through food, sharing family heirloom recipes and ensuring everyone's favorite dishes were made for special family gatherings.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Charles J. Powers, Jr. and 13 siblings.

She is survived by her two sons, Mark C. Powers of Park City, Utah and Dr. John S. Powers of Greenville, SC, as well as six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
